LAVALTRIE – The Office of the independent surveys (EIB) has opened an investigation Tuesday after a police intervention in Lavaltrie in Lanaudière, has resulted in the death of a man shot by an officer.
According to information from the EIB, Monday around 20: 20, police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) are called to a family dispute between a 53 year old man and a woman in a residence of the terrace Desrosiers.
The arrival of the officers, the woman has indicated a wish to lodge a complaint against the man.
The police are then left with the suspect, who, at the time of arrival at the police car, was asked to return to retrieve personal effects and its portfolio.
The agents have accepted his request, and the man returned to the interior accompanied by an officer.
In the residence, the man would have then taken a knife and inflicted wounds with.
The police officer who accompanied him would be shot and would have hit the suspect.
The victim was transported to the hospital where his death was recorded.
The EIB has dispatched seven investigators to the scene of the event with the support of the police Department of the City of Montreal.
The SQ will provide two forensic identification officers who will work under the supervision of the investigators of the EIB.
