Each Saturday, the research staff of our investigation agency in Montréal, Québec and Ottawa débusquent the new fake, verify statements and find the real numbers.

The numbers of the week : 17 years

This is the number of years since the last minister of Health and social Services in Quebec who was not from the environment of the health.

The ex-minister Danielle McCann, who has been a manager in the health network, has been replaced this week as part of a cabinet reshuffle by Christian Dubé, former first vice-president of the Caisse de dépôt et placement, which was until now president of the treasury Board.

The last minister to have held this position without having worked previously in the health sector is the current prime minister, François Legault, who comes from the business community. The politician and co-founder of Air Transat, has been minister of Health from January 2002 to April 2003.

Five ministers are then succeeded to this important post, either Philippe Couillard, Yves Bolduc, Rejean Hebert, Gaetan Barrette, and Danielle McCann. They were all doctors, except Mrs. McCann was a social worker and administrator.

It is the decrease in the estimated number of marriages celebrated in April in Quebec (838), compared to the average of the last 10 years. The pandemic of COVID-19 hard hits to the industry of weddings, as many couples have postponed their project wedding. With the restrictions on large gatherings and the déconfinement part, it is much more complex to organize weddings with several tens of guests.

“Some couples thus retain the date, by re-organizing the celebration in private, but several refer to the fall of 2020 or look more availability in the summer of 2021 “, highlights a new publication from the Institut de la statistique du Québec. However, it is too early to estimate the magnitude of the decrease in the number of weddings this year as in normal times, about 60 % of marriages are celebrated between June and September.
