The example of a hairdresser: the mask prevents the spread of the coronavirus

L'exemple d'un salon de coiffure: le masque évite la diffusion du coronavirus

Infected by the coronavirus, two employees of a hair salon american have worn a protective mask during their interactions with their customers. Nearly 140 people have attended in the space of a few days and none have been infected, according to a study published Tuesday.

The findings of the Centers for disease control and prevention disease united states (CDC), which conducted the study, go in the direction of use is very wide for the shield.

On 12 may, a dresser (the dresser Has) experienced respiratory symptoms in this salon located in Springfield, in the State of Missouri. But she continued to work until 20 may, upon receipt of a positive test result to the COVID-19.

A second stylist in hairdressing, of which the study does not specify if it was a man or a woman (hairdresser) (B) was exposed to his colleague and has developed symptoms on may 15, while continuing also to work until 20 may. A test was conducted and the result came back positive two days later.

The living room was then closed for three days and has been disinfected, while the health authorities identified 139 customers possibly exposed. The rest of the staff has been placed in quarantine for two weeks.

During their interactions with customers, two employees wore a mask: a cotton model with two layers for the first, a similar model or a type mask surgical for the second person.

But between the appointment and in the absence of customers, the two colleagues did not cover the face during their exchanges.

The state of health of the 139 clients were then monitored, and a test has been proposed. None of the 67 individuals who have agreed has not been declared positive. As for the others, they have not developed symptoms in the following two weeks.

The customers were almost equally divided between men and women. They were between 21 and 93 years, with an average age of 52 years. An overwhelming majority of the customers were wearing them as masks while they were getting hair done at a meeting that lasted between 15 and 45 minutes.

For the scientists at the CDC, this study reinforces their belief that the mask slows down the spread of the COVID-19.

“The widespread adoption of policies requiring to cover the face in public places should be considered to reduce the impact and the magnitude of the potential new wave of COVID-19”, they say.
