“The fair price is 1.50 euros”: a cap on fuel prices demanded by the 40 million motorists association

L’association 40 millions d’automobilistes a lancé une pétition ce mercredi 10 ans pour une réforme de la fiscalité sur les carburants afin de garantir un prix du litre de carburant en station-service toujours inférieur à 1,50 euro.
The association of road users 40 million motorists launched a petition this Wednesday April 10 to demand a cap on the price of fuel at 1.50 euros, "only acceptable limit price" according to them, relies France Bleu.
200 euros more per year in the budget
"In 1 year, the liter of SP95 has gained 32 cts€ and that of diesel increased by 21 euro cents. This corresponds to an average additional cost of just over 200 euros; per year (+13.3%) for each motorist", affirms the’association denouncing " ;record prices" which "endanger access to mobility" for many French people.

To deal with this problem, 40 million motorists are calling on the State to cap "as a matter of urgency" pump prices at 1.50 euros in all service stations, via a tax reform.
Indeed, as our colleagues point out, taxes represent 60% of the price of fuel. At the end of 2023, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire , had announced that the oil company TotalEnergies was maintaining its ceiling at 1.99 euros for the year 2024.
