The belvedere of the Grau d'Agde departmental fish market, unique of its kind in the Mediterranean basin, reopened its doors on April 2, with new features intended to promote the local fishing industry, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental education for the greatest pleasure of those curious and passionate about the maritime sector.

Located in the heart of the departmental fishing port, this exhibition space offers an immersive experience within the fishing industry, a vital sector for the local economy but often unknown to the general public. In 2023, the Grau d'Agde auction welcomed 7,800 visitors, thus breaking its attendance record. This enthusiasm reflects the growing interest in the maritime and fishing professions, as well as in the associated environmental issues. To meet this demand, the site has enriched its range of guided tours, allowing you to discover behind the scenes of fishing and the auction of fresh produce, a unique spectacle in the region. The year 2024 marks the introduction of a notable novelty: the “All about bluefin tuna” tour, an emblematic species of the Mediterranean, a subject of environmental but also gastronomic concerns. Bluefin tuna has been fished for over 7,000 years. The Greeks preserved its flesh in olive oil or brine, or smoked it. The Romans preferred it fresh. The Carthaginians and Phoenicians salted it and it was long preserved and consumed using this method. And now, how do we taste it ? Answer on Tuesday May 21, at 10 a.m., at the belvedere with a conference on bluefin tuna, followed by a tasting on the different ways of cooking it. At the same time, the Visitors will have the opportunity to taste other local seafood products, in a friendly kitchen area.

Reservations are required for all visits and activities offered by the Grau d’Agde fish market belvedere. Tickets are available online on the website www.crieeagde.com or on 06 16 07 09 62.
