The great love between Wilfried Nancy and the Crew

MISE À DAY

Former CF Montreal head coach Wilfried Nancy is getting a lot of love from Columbus Crew fans as the season kicks off.

The Frenchman chose the Ohio franchise this winter after not being able to get along with the Bleu-Blanc-Noir, and the fans are giving it back to him rather well. On Saturday, at the Crew's home opener at Lower.com Field, fans unfurled a huge banner of the driver's likeness behind one of the goals.

It read: ci “Vive la Créwvolution” and also see a supporter holding a “Allez Columbus” scarf. Crew supporters have truly embraced Nancy's French origins.

“I'm really grateful for that. Thank you to the amateurs for the tifo they made. It's amazing, mentioned the main interested party, according to the Major League Soccer website. I do this job for that. Personally, I do it for the emotions. When I arrived and saw that, I wanted to play.”

The Crew also won this match by a score of 2 to 0 against D.C. United. It was prolific midfielder Lucas Zelarayan who netted the team's two goals. Columbus was defeated in its first game of the campaign, being defeated 4-1 by the Philadelphia Union.
