The Kanak community of Montpellier mobilized for a return to calm and “living together”

Environ soixante personnes se sont rassemblées, cet après-midi, sur la Comédie, en marge d’une manifestation pour la Palestine, afin d’exprimer son inquiétude et son soutien à la population de la Kanaky.

The ongoing riots in their large island of New Caledonia could not leave them silent and inactive. This Saturday at the beginning of the afternoon, around sixty people from the Kanak community of Montpellier expressed their concern and their call for calm.

"Do not fall into caricature"

The organizers of this rally decided to join the demonstration organized in support of Palestine and the people of Gaza organized at the same time. "We advocate calm, living together. We learned to combine it a long time ago, we don't want to fall into caricature. But extremism came from France, it is inspired by a colonialist vision." assures Trésor, one of the organizers of this mobilization relayed by the Caledonian Case of Montpellier, an association which brings together students from the island. The Kanaks call for "appeasement", but "we must recognize our legitimacy"&amp ;nbsp;pursues Trésor, joined in particular by Albert, a student very worried about access to care for the populations of New Caledonia but also the surrounding islands.

"The French people are not our adversary but we live in a tyranny that France can no longer hide. For two mandates, dialogue has been cut off by the Macronian regime" further denounces Trésor.
