At the end of 2023, the rate had increased by 0.3%. The region recorded 543,800 job seekers.
The number of job seekers, all categories, was rather stable in recent months in Occitania. Thus, at the end of 2023, it was 8.9%. It has returned to the level of the first half of 2022, but remains well below the pre-Covid 19 crisis period, when it stood at 10.4%.
The region's unemployment rate remains higher than that of the rest of France (7.4%) and the region is once again seeing the number of its unemployed inhabitants increase.
The palm of the Pyrénées-Orientales
The unemployment situation differs from one department to another and once again, the Pyrénées-Orientales are at the back of the pack. The unemployment rate varied in the last quarter of 20233 between 4.7% in Lozère and 12.4% in the Pyrénées-Orientales in the third quarter of 2023, underlines INSEE. Over one year, unemployment rose in all departments with the exception of Lot and Hautes-Pyrénées.
