The mayors of the heart of Hérault get on their bicycles
|Les maires ont déjà couru les années précédentes pour des causes caritatives (ici en 2022).
Une dizaine d’élus va parcourir plus de 170 km pour la bonne cause.
Do the Hérault councillors have a hidden plan to take part in the Tour de France?? There was a time when the Grande Boucle welcomed regional teams, and that of the Hérault mayors would surely not have been amiss! In two days, the valiant cyclists will cover more than 170 km, and not for glory or money, but for a charitable cause. On the occasion of the Hérault mayors' fair, which will be held this Friday, September 27 in Béziers, five mayors and three deputies have decided to join the Béziers city by bike, collecting money as they pass through the towns.
Gignac ville-étape
“This initiative was born in 2021, explains Jean-Marc Isure, Mayor of Campagnan. I had decided to go to Toulouse by bike along the Canal du Midi. I spoke about it to my colleague and friend Claude Carceller, Mayor of Montpeyroux. Our group then expanded and we finally rode to Toulouse, raising funds for the specialized reception center l’Ensoleillade, in Saint-André-de-Sangonis.”
Given the success, the elected officials then decided to repeat the operation. This year, the amount collected will be donated to the association “Le sourire de Laétitia”, founded by the mayor of Mudaison Jean Ortega in memory of his deceased daughter, and which works in collaboration with the pediatric oncology department of the Arnaud de Villeneuve hospital. The mayors will therefore set off from Mudaison on Thursday morning at 9am to reach Mauguio, Palavas before heading back north to Gignac, promoted to the rank of "stage town"!
A truck in case of a problem
The next day, the courageous elected officials, ignoring their aches and pains, will hit the road again towards Béziers. "We will stop in the towns we pass through, says Jean-Marc Isure. We will talk to the municipal councils if they wish and we will collect a little money at each stage. The mayors' association has already sent a check for 2,000 euros. “But how does this very political peloton support the course? ? “We have a truck that follows us in case of a problem,” smiles Jean-Marc Isure. Some elected officials, like Pierre Amalou from Argelliers, are accomplished cyclists and are there to support the victims of failures! “
The composition of the peloton
Eight elected officials are participating this year in the operation. These are Claude Carceller, mayor of Montpeyroux, Jean-Marc Isure, mayor of Campagnan, José Martinez, maire de Bélarga, Pierre Amalou, maire d’Argelliers, Thibaut Barral, maire du Pouget, Stéphane Coste, adjoint au maire de Vendémian, Ali Benameur, adjoint au maire de Lodève et Thierry Aillaud, adjoint au maire d’Argelliers.
