“The moment is serious”: the left is ready for a “balance of power” so that Emmanuel Macron appoints Lucie Castets as Prime Minister

After the Head of State brushed aside the hypothesis of appointing the candidate designated by the NFP to Matignon, Manuel Bompard declared that he wanted to initiate "a balance of power" with the Elysée.
The candidate nominated by the left Lucie Castets asked Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday to appoint her as Prime Minister without delay, while the Head of State brushed aside this hypothesis and aroused the anger of the leaders of the New Popular Front, ready to "a balance of power" with the Elysée.
On France Inter, for her first speech in an audiovisual media, this 37-year-old senior civil servant at Paris town hall, engaged in the defense of public services but unknown to the general public, called on the President of the Republic to "take her responsibilities" by appointing her to Matignon.
"The moment is serious and we cannot postpone this type of decision", she insisted , in response to the head of state who said Tuesday evening that he would not appoint a new government before the end of the Olympic Games "mid-August" .
"A coalition with the presidential camp is impossible"
She called it "denial of democracy"this rejection of his surprise candidacy, announced by the left just before Mr. Macron's televised interview on Tuesday evening.
Since July 7, the New Popular Front (NFP), which came out on top after the second round of the legislative elections, but far from an absolute majority (289 deputies), has not been able to agree on a name.
“The question is not a name. The question is what majority can emerge in the Assembly", estimated the President of the Republic who, while acknowledging having lost the legislative elections, called for"compromises" between the parties that blocked the National Rally between the two rounds of the elections.
But Lucie Castets responded that'"a coalition with the presidential camp is impossible due to our deep disagreements", in line with those responsible for the New Popular Front.
"Our starting point is the program of the New Popular Front", it will take "convince text after text" to achieve majorities in the National Assembly, she said with among her "first priorities", "the repeal of the pension reform".
"Forcené entrenched at the Elysée"
Leaders of the left took turns in the media on Wednesday morning to defend his candidacy, calling for "mobilization" to put pressure on the Elysée.
The coordinator of La France insoumise Manuel Bompard wants to hire "a balance of power", having "the impression of having to deal with a sort of madman who is entrenched at the Élysée.
For the patron saint of environmentalists Marine Tondelier, Mr. Macron reacted "like a panicked child, the only thing he knew announce at 8:00 p.m., that's because he said no.
"He can't act like nothing happened until mid-August", she judged, brushing aside the idea of an Olympic truce. "We are capable of doing two things at the same time, that& ;rsquo;that is to say to watch the final of the 400 meters hurdles and compose a government".
"Respecting a temporality that we have not chosen"
Opposite, the Macronist camp defended this truce demanded by the Head of State, whose agenda is now almost monopolized by the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11), between intervention before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the 2030 Winter Games in the Alps and visit to the beach volleyball stadium at the foot of the Eiffel Tower on Wednesday morning, international summit on development on Thursday and opening ceremony Friday.
"This is not saving time, it’s respecting a temporality that we have not chosen which is that of JO", pleaded the resigning minister Aurore Bergé on Europe1/Cnews. On the merits, it judged that '"a government which would be formed only by the NFP, a government which would include members from LFI would be a government which would be censored the very next day".
The Élysée strategists consider that the alliance which was formed between the presidential camp and the Republican Right to re-elect Yaël Braun-Pivet as president of the National Assembly can constitute an "embryo" coalition. The proof in any case that "the barycenter" politics is rather "center", or even "center-right", according to them.
