The Museum of Romanity in Nîmes welcomed more than 80,000 visitors this summer

Le musée de la Romanité à Nîmes approche le million de visiteurs depuis son ouverture. 

The number of visitors to the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes continues to grow. It has reached nearly a million visitors since its opening in 2018.

Between May and September 2024, the museum welcomed 80,939 visitors, an increase of 22% compared to the same previous period. This is due in particular to the exhibition “Achilles and the Trojan War”. Well received by the press, it was the subject of favorable word of mouth. It was accompanied by new cultural and family proposals and a communication effort, in the wake of the registration of the Maison Carrée by UNESCO. Since its opening on April 26, the exhibition has attracted 63,148 visitors, or 80% of the people who have visited the museum.

27% of foreign visitors

Among the visitors during the summer season, 27% were foreign, 73% were French. Among the French public, 33% come from Gard (17% from Nîmes), Hérault (9%), Paris (5%), Bouches-du-Rhône (5%) and Rhône (3%).

3,690 visitors chose a guided tour, an increase of 171% compared to 2023.

511 groups were welcomed, an increase of 84% and the museum hosted 65 events between but in September, compared to 61 in 2023. The boutique bookstore, which recently had a makeover, has seen a 36% increase in turnover.
