Le nombre de fidèles augmentant, l’Aïd-el-Fitr va mobiliser deux halls, au lieu d’un habituellement.

For several days, the four mosques of Béziers and the Turkish association have been mobilized to prepare for Eid-el-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. The celebration will be held at the exhibition center, in a large format version: "Since 2015 we were in hall 3, last year the park was not available, we found ourselves in a parking lot. But this year we have halls 1 and 2!", welcomes Omar Mamoune, from the El Houda mosque, next to the locks.

This Tuesday, with his co-religionists, he put the finishing touches to the event which had brought together 11,000 faithful in 2023. Carpets were placed in the front rows, for the notables and the chibanis (the elders): "Around forty people responsible for security will guide them through the two halls, he explains. I will officiate in the first from 8:30 a.m., and it will be broadcast on giant screens in the second. The sacred texts will be read in Arabic, but then everything else will be in French, this is a development that I have seen since 2005 and my arrival in Béziers." < /em>The imam saw another change among the faithful, especially the younger ones: "They know the religion better, that&rsquo ;is important, to prevent them from getting lost."

The organizers, active throughout Ramadan, are expecting a record attendance: "For a month, we had to avoid that the people don't pray in the street, says Larbi Ousalam, from the Errahma association, which managed the large tent pitched next to the Devèze mosque. The faithful came from all over Béziers, and even from ;Agde, where the mosque is closed."

This end of the month of Ramadan is traditionally celebrated with a morning of prayers at the mosque, wearing new clothes. But in Béziers, as in many cities, we opted for a joint celebration. "We close the mosques so that people can meet up", insists Omar Mamoune. In fact, the first faithful will arrive at dawn, for songs. After the prayer and the sermon, it will then be time to get together as a family, for a feast of tagines, couscous, and oriental pastries which are also distributed to the neighbors: "Tuesday evening, for breaking the fast, it’s sober. The big meal is this Wednesday, at noon."
