In 1997, after storms caused by El niño, a newborn baby sea otter or sea otter (lat. Enhydra lutris) were left without parents. Alone he would not have survived, so it is care in California’s aquatic centre Aquarium of the Pacific. The kid was named Charlie.
In the wild, the maximum age of sea otters is 11-13 years, but under the supervision of experts in the comfort of Charlie lived much longer. He not only greeted visitors to the aquarium, but also made a contribution to science. One of the most important experiments with its participation was to study responses to sounds and it will help his brethren in the wild: identifying critical noise level, ecologists presented to the governments plan to reduce sound pollution of the ocean. It is also allowed to take my blood without the use of sleeping pills, and its analysis allows to learn more about the health of these animals.
In the Guinness Book of records 21-year-old Charlie was included as a sea otter-survivor in captivity.
