“The people of Montpellier did not elect us to build an incinerator in the middle of the city”: Coralie Mantion slams the door of the metropolis of Montpellier

En votant contre le budget de sa majorité, Coralie Mantion, vice-présidente de la Métropole à l’aménagement durable, a acté son départ.
Pourquoi ce départ ?
This is not to prepare for the 2026 municipal elections, as some claimed in the hemicycle, but because of a breach of contract on the part of Michaël Delafosse with the environmentalists. We had in fact made joint commitments to the people of Montpellier on the fact that there would be no incinerator, and that a zero waste policy would be put in place. He was also committed to stopping urban extensions on the Cambacérès ZAC.
This is an irreparable break ?
Yes, because among our points of agreement, there was also the preservation of agricultural land in the green belt of Montpellier and that of ecological corridors inside the city. We were thus committed to making Montpellier more resilient and greener in view of future energy crises. And the latest arbitrations of the PLUI (Local Intercommunal Urban Planning Plan) do not respect these commitments.
What about the CSR sector ?
The people of Montpellier did not elect us to build an incinerator in the middle of the city. It will see the light of day in Garosud, in the middle of a district of more than 10,000 inhabitants! Environmentalists seem more divided than ever… It's been a while since we dissociated ourselves from Manu Reynaud. We have no longer recognized ourselves in his positions for more than two years. He was also excluded from EELV and speaks in his own name and not that of environmentalists. The next deadline for me is the European elections. This is important because the reduction of waste, such as that of single-use plastics, has come about thanks to European regulations.
