BETTING À DAY

Here are four suggestions for a great weekend.

Drink less. Drink better.

Reichsrat von Buhl, Bone Dry 2020, Germany

$24.15 – Code SAQ 15057721 – 12.5%

This pinot noir (or spätburgunder in German) vinified in rosé could very well have appeared in our list of the 50 best rosés of the summer. Even though it is a 2020, the fruit is still present, a sign that the acidity plays a central role in preserving the aromas and their youth. Dry to the bone, as its name “Bone Dry” suggests, it leaves a pleasant impression of small red fruits on the finish, barley sugar and flowers.

★★★ $ $

Cortes de Cima 2019, Alentejo, Portugal

$27.20 – SAQ code 15113340 – 13.5%

My favorite cuvée from this excellent producer from Alentejo, in the south of Portugal. A blend of Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Petit Verdot giving a deep red colour. Seductive nose of black fruits, pepper, eucalyptus on a background of vanilla and well-integrated toast. A good material with chewy, medium-bodied, juicy, long and very fresh. We buy with our eyes closed!

★★★ 1⁄2 $$ 1⁄2

Domaine Tariquet, Chardonnay Tête de Cuvée 2020, Côtes de Gascogne, France

$25.95 – SAQ code 15107142 – 12%

Interesting exercise in style by this giant producer (more than 1000 hectares of vines) from the South West of France. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), which is more than remarkable for a producer of this size, this Chardonnay will appeal to lovers of buttery and woody whites. Notes of pear syrup, melon and toast give way to a greasy texture, almost rich, but which retains hold and shows appreciable length. Well made in its genre.

★★ 1⁄2 $$ 1⁄2

Le Clos de Caveau, Fruit Sauvage 2020, Vacqueyras, France

$29.70 – SAQ code 13750370 – 14% – Organic

A bomb of purity with tones of cherry, plum, fig, pepper, garrigue and red licorice. Dominant Grenache complemented by Syrah giving a nourished and juicy substance. Superbly integrated tannic mass. It's powerful, almost fiery while remaining airy and precise. It would shave many Chateauneufs at twice the price. In short, a tour de force not to be missed!
