The region spared by the resurgence of the COVID-19

La région épargnée par le regain de la COVID-19

The regions of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches regions remain unaffected by the revival of the COVID-19 for a dozen of days in Quebec. Strategies for mass screening of the two regions could partly explain this success.

During the last 10 days, while Quebec reported more than 1,300 new cases, the regions of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches regions, they identified only 28 positive tests.

In proportion, if the two regions together account for 14 % of Quebec’s population, they only account for 2 % of all new cases of coronavirus since 14 July.

Screening intensive

Even if the number of cases remains relatively stable in the greater Quebec city region, the screenings have continued to increase. It could be one of the reasons for the success of the region in the balance sheet daily.

In the National Capital, it is an average of more than 1,000 daily tests that have been carried out this week. The volume of tests remains, as high as in Chaudière-Appalaches.

According to our information, the wave of screening would have taken place in childcare, day camps, or businesses. Several institutions require a test of the COVID-19 before the return of a person who shows symptoms, even benign, an approach to reduce the risk of transmission.

The epidemiological surveys tight also help reduce the risk of transmission.

“[It] allows us to quickly stop transmission of the virus by isolating all the positive cases and contacts at moderate or high risk for 14 days. Our goal is to prevent any outbreak or, failing that, of the control to reduce the number of secondary cases, ” explains Mathieu Boivin, spokesman for the CIUSSS of the National Capital, adding that the hygiene compliance by the population also plays a large role.

These strategies have also been praised by the national director of public health, Horacio Arruda, during its passage in the region of Chaudière-Appalaches, in the last week.

Hires

The demand for tests is such that the two departments of public health on a regional level are on track to increase their testing capacity to respond to the public’s appetite.

“To support these efforts, we have recently launched a recruitment campaign in order to get reinforcements in terms of personnel,” explains Mathieu Boivin.

35 minutes for a test without an appointment

With the increased demand for testing in the greater Quebec city region, The Newspaper has the year on Wednesday by presenting herself to the clinic without an appointment of Place Fleur de Lys. Verdict ? 35 minutes top chrono, in the queue at the exit of the garage.

The reality of Quebec is so far from Montreal, where people waited up to five hours to take the test last week due to resurgence of the virus in recent days.

More than 1000 tests per day

In fact, everything is done smoothly at the clinic without appointment, which was installed in the garages of Place Fleur de Lys.

On arrival check in at 12: 05 p.m., fifteen vehicles are already in the queue in the parking lot and quickly, another ten is added behind. After 15 minutes of waiting, we assigned one of the five garage doors, and we are asked to prepare our documents. At 12: 30 p.m., we go into the garage and after a few questions on the state of health, it is now time of the test. Thirty minutes after arrival, the levy is made and left immediately. The whole thing is set to a quarter turn.

This efficiency has allowed the CIUSSS of the National Capital to achieve the average of 1000 tests per day this week. In Chaudière-Appalaches, the director of public health, Liliana Romero, stated last week that the number of tests revolved around 350 per day.

Waiting variable

The waiting time, and according to the times of the day, play for 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on the application. With appointments, it is necessary to provide a period of 24 to 72 hours for the appointment and the test.

“These waiting times vary daily according to the solicitations, pop-up our facilities : one week will be less busy, then the next one will be even more, because of, for example, instructions of government of targeted screening “, explains Mathieu Boivin, spokesman for the CIUSSS.

As to the results, it should take 24 to 48 hours before you get as far as Québec city and Lévis, a period that can also fluctuate according to the demand.
