NATO suspends cooperation with Russia and strengthens presence in Eastern Europe. However, the Alliance remains “open to political dialogue” with Moscow. This is stated in the final Declaration, which was adopted at the summit of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels on Wednesday, July 11, reports DW.

In light of the deterioration in the security of NATO countries, among other things, intends to increase its presence in Eastern Europe. In addition, the Alliance has suspended civilian and military cooperation with Russia, at the same time, while remaining “open to political dialogue”. NATO does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia, the document says.

As stated in the Declaration, the decision of the Alliance is motivated by “aggressive actions of Russia”, including the threat of force, “which undermined Euro-Atlantic security”.

During the summit, Donald trump has proposed to increase defense spending to four percent of GDP. In addition, he again demanded that Germany increase in defense spending and said that Berlin “is under the full control of Russia.”

However, the current initiative of the President of the United States not became a formal proposal. NATO countries agreed to increase military spending to two percent of GDP by 2024, but this year, this goal will achieve only five of the 29 member States of the Alliance.

As previously reported “facts”, the NATO Summit confirmed the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine. In addition, the Declaration of the Brussels summit of heads of state and government of NATO supported the resolution, which called on Russia to stop military intervention in Ukraine and withdraw its armed forces from its territory.
