The Rouge et Or has confidence in Arnaud Desjardins
|BET À DAY
Unlike last year, there doesn't seem to be any competition for the position of starting quarterback with the Université Laval Rouge et Or.
Even before his first whistle in training camp, Glen Constantin had already established that he would bet on Arnaud Desjardins in 2022. The latter had established himself behind the center of the Quebec formation in mid- season last year, after disappointing performances from Thomas Bolduc.
The latter had however won the race after the camp held in 2021, at the expense of Desjardins. This time, Bolduc will be in competition again, but for the position of second violin. He gave battle to Xavier Tremblay.
“With all of his work from last year, his winter and his spring camp, he is one step ahead of the others,” said the Rouge et Or head coach, when asked about the reasons that led him to put the ball in the hands of Desjardins.
“The fact that there is no competition in place allows the attack to be more focused on what she has to do. It’s one less question to ask,” Constantin continued.
Take nothing for granted
Even though he received a great proof of confidence, Desjardins insisted that he shouldn't rest on his laurels.
“I don't want to keep the things for granted, said the one who is known for his Olympian calm. I focus on myself. I want to define myself a role in this team by bringing a little more leadership. attempted last year for 803 yards and seven touchdowns. He amassed his statistics by starting four of his team's eight games.
Asked about the strengths of his unit for the next campaign, Desjardins preferred to talk about the players around him rather of his skills.
“We still have an excellent offensive line. We are also lucky to have a lot of athletes among our pass receivers and ball carriers. We are going to be dangerous and explosive with the ball!”
