The Secours catholique d’Alès clearance sale attracts crowds, needs and generosity

La braderie est ouverte chaque après-midi jusqu’à vendredi. Midi Libre – Alexis BETHUNE

L'association tient sa braderie solidaire jusqu'à ce vendredi 8 mars dans l'espace André-Chamson.

As soon as the premises opened this Monday, March 4, customers and beneficiaries were there. "In 1 hour 30 minutes, we sold 90 € of clothes, indicates Martine Magne, store manager for Secours catholique d'Alès. To 1 € the garment, that's 90 already sold."

Twice a year, the association organizes this event to help the most deprived find everyday products at lower costs. Books and games for children are also offered in addition to clothing. A meeting which also allows us to recreate a few links: "We receive a lot of people who are isolated, testifies Marie-André Simon, responsible for reception of the association. Old people, but also younger people for several years."

Serve all year round

Beyond this meeting which forms one of the first events of the year for the association, Secours catholique intends to maintain its multitude of events. #39;activities serving others: cooking workshops, creative arts, sewing… but also academic support for children, help with learning French, shared gardens (thanks to a plot operated in Tamaris) and home visits. "We want to maintain our spirit of solidarity, but also ensure that people realize, especially through our workshops, that they have real talents< /em>, believes Jeanine Reboul. The volunteer, until the end of last year, ensured many of these meetings. "When you are in poverty, you no longer think about yourself."

Accompanied by around sixty volunteers, the Alesian branch of Catholic relief also provides genuine gratitude to the many donors, particularly for everything sold at low prices during their clearance sale. "We thank them very much!, supports Marie-André Simon. Some weeks we manage to collect 860 kg of clothes!" A little clarification for these generous donors: do your best to donate clothes in good condition. Even today, volunteers regret having to throw away many clothes because they are too dirty or too worn.

The Secours catholique clearance sale is open every afternoon, from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., until Friday March 8, at the André-Chamson space. Clothing sold between 1 € and 3 € on average. I subscribe to read more
