Republican Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed a bill Friday to make it illegal to use or prescribe the abortion pill across the state.
This is the first US state to pass this law.
As confirmed by Fox News, it will now be impossible in Wyoming to “prescribe, distribute, sell or use any drug that is used specifically to procure or perform an abortion.”
Anyone who does not comply with this new law is liable to a criminal record, in addition to six months imprisonment and fine of up to $9,000.
The so-called “morning after” pill, taken by some women after sex but before they can confirm a pregnancy, has notably been exempted from this prohibition.
The only exceptions provided for in this law are if the pregnancy involves the life or health of the mother, can one also nt read it.
In a separate bill, Governor Gordon has also indicated that he wants to put in all the necessary manpower to try to end abortions in the state in almost all cases. He would like to ensure that the law can pass with only the agreement of state legislators, and without even his signature, to speed up the process.
Since the reversal of Roe v. Wade last June, abortion rights in the United States continue to face numerous legal challenges.
