“The Voice”: Roxane Bruneau, ready to sit down in a red armchair

UPGRADE DAY

Fifth coach of “La Voix”, Roxane Bruneau had a lot of fun with her candidates of “La deux Voix”. Before participating in the quarter-final of the ninth season, on March 26, during which the winner of this parallel competition will be announced, she gives a very positive assessment of her experience.

“I still had a pressure that came with the fact of coaching young talents, she said in an interview. I haven't been in this business for thirty years, but in the end I'm not having a lot of fun.”

For “The Second Voice”, she had to recruit six candidates from among those who had not been selected during the blind auditions. Harder choices to make than she thought. “In previous seasons, when I watched the show at home, I sometimes wondered why the coaches hadn't turned on certain contestants, but what the singer manages to make us feel live is different from what we see on TV. Something indescribable happens when you hear a live artist.” She takes Sébastien as an example, whom she recruited into her team. “He may have less technique than another, he starts in this environment, but it's pure when he sings. He will really seek out the audience. If you come looking for me with the right emotion, it will work.”

Relevance

Even if she is not the most technical of singers, Roxanne Bruneau has been able to provide relevant and judicious advice to her candidates to advance and improve. “When I had fun, it is also related to my performance. I was afraid of that. Finally, I completely forgot about the cameras and filming constraints. I was told that we had to stop, but I would have stayed a long time with the candidates. I discovered a new talent, and maybe even a new passion for helping young people.”

The singer-songwriter even admits to feeling ready to occupy one of the official coach seats of “The Voice”. “Now that I know how it works, I would like to have this experience. If anyone from production reads this article, call me!”

This experience also allowed him to learn about her and gave her a certain confidence. “It gave me a boost. I often say that I am part of the next generation, but not really anymore. I have my place, but I don't realize it. I always have so much fun when I get on stage, I'm always so nervous when I do TV, but it gave me confidence in myself on other aspects of my career. I know I can give advice and help young people who want to do this job.”

End of tour

Roxane Bruneau is actively preparing to go on stage at the Bell Center and the Videotron Center next, for the last two shows that will mark the end of her “Acrophobia” tour. “It is an accomplishment for me. And I want to give a big show like we've never seen in Quebec. People pay for their tickets, they travel, they spend on parking, the restaurant… I want to give them their money's worth, but I don't reveal anything in advance, I want to keep the content secret until the bout.”

The finalists as seen by their coach

Livia St-Pierre: “She is 15 years old, she is the child prodigy. She has a lot of technique for her age. When she arrives, she is prepared. I have very few notes to give her because she already has everything she needs in her luggage. She has great confidence on stage, but sometimes she plays confidence. She's going to have to find her own source, but she's not far away.

Sarah Vanderzon: “She has her color, a beautiful, slightly muffled voice. She is a singer-songwriter who has a career ahead of her, the problem is that she does not believe in it. I was like her when I started, I didn't really believe it, I didn't take my applause. She would just have to lose this impostor syndrome.

Sébastien Méloche: “It’s a little nugget. I think he will have to gain confidence in himself, and be less tense on stage. A lot of guys hide behind their guitar on stage. But I think he has everything: the voice, the face and the charisma.”

Until March 24, at 11:59 p.m., the public has the opportunity to choose the winner of “The second Voice” on TVA+. The name of the winner will be revealed live, during the second quarter-final of “La Voix”, on March 26.
