TORONTO | The canadian star, The Weeknd has made a$ 500,000 donation to the emergency fund of the hospital district of Scarborough, in Toronto, put in place in the fight against the COVID-19.
“I was raised in Scarborough and I thought it was important to give back to the community that has raised me during the difficult moments of this pandemic,” explained the interpreter Can’t feel my face by way of a press release on Monday.
This amount comes from revenues from the sale of masks emblazoned with the acronym X0, the image of the artist.
“This gift will help the community of our hospital to continue to deliver exceptional care to the people of Scarborough in the wake of the COVID-19, and it demonstrates to our brave staff that its work in this critical situation has not been ignored”, welcomed Elizabeth Beller, CEO of the health system in Scarborough.
The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, has grown in the popular area of Scarborough in a family of ethiopian origin. To 30 years, it is today one of the biggest music stars in the world, collecting first places in the charts for about five years.
