There is an upward trend in delinquency within the jurisdiction of the Béziers court

A quantified assessment of the judicial year was established by the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland. J.-P A. – Midi Libre

During the solemn hearing of the Béziers judicial court, the public prosecutor, Raphaël Balland, pointed out the stocks of pending procedures in the two police stations in the area. 28,388 complaints were recorded in 2023.

The Béziers judicial court has made its solemn return. The public prosecutor, Raphaël Balland, immediately attacked: "The catastrophic state of the stocks of procedures awaiting processing in the police stations of Agde and especially Béziers.& ;quot; He has made it his priority and only needs to be convinced of the positive effects of the new organization of the national police in this regard."  He assured that the Béziers public prosecutor's office was ready to take its full part in the work that was piling up, but he affirmed: "More investigators are needed to carry out the investigations. Because, without an investigation there are no sanctions or reparation. So, no justice."

Increase police numbers

To obtain results, he recommended increasing the number of police officers assigned to the judicial police and strengthening the intermediate hierarchy. Seventeen new police officers arrived in Béziers, for example, but with the game of departures and leave, there are, ultimately, only three more.

In 2023, the Béziers public prosecutor's office recorded a whopping 28,388 complaints, an increase of almost 4% after a very strong increase (19%) in 2022.
The number of police custody increased by more than 20%, it had already increased by 28% in 2022. This year, however, it is possible to weigh the increase, because the statistics include traffic offenses for the first time.

The floor is working

To highlight the work of the public prosecutor's office a little more, the public prosecutor explained that in 2023, the electronic office of the public prosecutor's office had, alone, processed 13,402 emails from investigators. Of the 28,388 complaints filed, 8,578 people could be prosecuted. 955 people were the subject of an immediate criminal response. There were 2,663 alternatives to prosecution and 2,146 criminal orders (56% of criminal responses) which were the subject of a summons between 7 days and 3 weeks after the end of the investigation .

"These particularly short delays are made possible thanks to the establishment of the local criminal justice office." To put it simply, 77% of completed investigation procedures were completed. rsquo;subject to a criminal response within a maximum period of three weeks.

"More violent and younger minors"

"Concerning minors, I am concerned about an aggravation of the acts committed by some minors, always younger and more violent,” insisted prosecutor Balland.
The latter are in principle systematically brought before the children's judge at the end of their custody. In 2023, 84 minors were referred, i.e. 30 more than in 2022.

"Among them, 9 were involved in the urban violence in June during four police operations. We will not give up on these events in order to make it clear to all those who participate in this type of incident that they risk being held accountable at any time. Just as the parents of minors can be ordered to reimburse the damage committed by their children"
