It is the decline in the number of passengers in regular flights to Canada in April 2020, compared to the same period last year, according to Statistics Canada. The pandemic of COVID-19 has been disastrous for the aviation industry, causing the greatest decrease in the air transport ever recorded.

This decrease is almost two times more severe than that observed between the months of march 2020 and march 2019, which was 44 %. Already, the month of march 2020 had broken records in terms of the decline in the number of passengers.

In comparison, the events of 11 September 2001 in the United States and the outbreak of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in spring 2003 had caused a decrease of a quarter of the attendance in the air transportation industry in Canada. Before the current pandemic, these two events were the most significant disturbances have been recorded in this industry.
