Daisy Ridley, the 32-year-old British actress, has revealed that she has Graves' disease, which causes severe fatigue and weight loss.

Actress Daisy Ridley, who notably played Rey, the heroine of the latest Star Wars trilogy, has announced that she suffers from a thyroid disease that causes severe fatigue and weight loss.

The 32-year-old American star revealed that she has Graves' disease in an interview with Women's Health magazine published on Tuesday.

“This is the first time I've shared this,” she explained, specifying that she was diagnosed in September 2023.

Several symptoms

Among the symptoms that have affected her are a rapid heart rate, weight loss, fatigue and hand tremors, according to the magazine.

The actress, who had just finished shooting “Magpie”, a film that is due to be released soon and in which she plays a mother confronted with the difficulties of her relationship, did not at first realize that she was ill.

"I told myself that I had just played a very stressful role and that was probably why I felt bad", he- she told.

Graves' disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and is more likely to affect women than men, according to the European Thyroid Association.

Other personalities have suffered from it, such as rapper Missy Elliott and former First Lady of the United States Barbara Bush.

A gluten-free diet

Already a vegetarian, the Star Wars star said she switched to a gluten-free diet since her diagnosis.

"I'm not very strict about it but, in general, cutting down on gluten makes me feel better"< /em>, she said.
