Undermined by injuries in recent months, Lucas Pouille has said goodbye to his dream of playing in the Olympic Games for some time, he said after his defeat in the first round of the Open Sud de France in Montpellier against Harold Mayot (6-4, 7-5), Tuesday January 30.
Lucas Pouille, after being eliminated in the first round of the Open Sud de France: "Physically and technically I felt good. Harold is playing well and progressing. Soon he will enter the top 100. I didn't fish technically or physically but more in terms of realism. I had 17 break points and only converted three.
I had some very good sequences but it was interspersed with less good things. I'm lacking direction because I haven't been able to play many matches. And that will come with competition. But I could have gotten annoyed, but I tried and that's all I can do.
On qualifying for the Olympic Games ? I admit that I don't really believe it. You never know but a lot of things really need to happen. We should be in the 60-70s so win a lot of matches. It was a goal, unfortunately since Roland I have played three tournaments because of injuries so it's too little. I couldn't defend my chances. This goal of the Olympic Games is behind me, if I achieve it it's a miracle. Today the primary objective is to return to the top 100 and play these tournaments."
