This top Red Wings prospect isn't on the eve of returning

Young Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson underwent left shoulder surgery on Monday and will undergo a four to six month recovery.

The organization of Michigan confirmed the news the next day. Thus, the 20-year-old Swede is expected to miss training camp and the start of next season.

Used late in the regular schedule due to the playoff exclusion from the roster that was about to be made official, Edvinsson played nine games with the Wings last season, scoring twice. The sixth pick in the 2021 draft has mostly played in the American League, recording five goals and 22 assists for 27 points in 52 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

At the 2022 World Championship , the full-back took part in six games and tallied two points to lead his country to the bronze medal.
