THREE-RIVERS | Trois-Rivières is currently evaluating its options to better control the impact of torrential rains, after two episodes in a week which have caused local flooding.
Tuesday night, about 70 mm of rain fell in a short time in the western sector, causing a new flood of the boulevard des Récollets near highway 40.
The floods of the small rivers of the area caused sewer backups storm. “We had this overflow, which was released by storm conduits on the boulevard des Récollets. These are situations that are outstanding and the City will see to correct the problems,” said Guillaume Cholette-Jansen, a spokesman for the city.
The engineering department had already been at work after the excesses suffered last week during violent thunderstorms.
A few years ago, the City had already commissioned a study to better cope with floods in the affected sector around the store Costco. A woman remembers that.
“While the area that was built was a sort of swamp, at the time, with cattails and land loamy which kept the water. It is sure that the problem is not resolved because they have built houses, they have made streets, with catch basins”, said Lucette Bolduc-Lamy, a native of the area’s Three Rivers-West.
