Clare Hart, Christian Carl, Bertrand Loubette and Marie France Marchand-Baylet (from left to right), gathered this Thursday in Montpellier. DR

Lieutenant Bertrand Loubette, head of the French detachment of the UOFA, and Polizeioberkommissar Christian Carl, of the German federal police, spoke of their collaboration during a meeting organized in Montpellier in the part of the Franco-German Fortnight in Occitania.

Organized with the City of Montpellier as part of the Franco-German Fortnight in Occitanie, notably organized by the Groupe La Dépêche Foundation, chaired by Marie-France Marchand-Baylet, the debate around the question of preventing violence in the sport which was held on Thursday in Montpellier also allowed us to better understand the UOFA, the Franco-German operational unit.

G7, Champions League, Tour de France…

Created in 2019, following the signing by France and Germany of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, this binational unit formed by the German federal police and the French national gendarmerie aims, in particular, to prevent violence and guarantee the security of the border area, and, more generally, in relations between our two countries, particularly during major events.< /p>

"We worked on the G7 in Biarritz, in 2017, or in Bavaria in 2022, sporting events, such as the Champions League football matches between PSG and Dortmund, stages of the Tour de France, or the beer festival in Munich, and the Eurockéennes festival in Belfort" thus presents Lieutenant Bertrand Loubette, head of the French detachment of the UOFA, alongside his Germanic counterpart within the unit, Polizeioberkommissar Christian Carl, of the German Federal Police.

Olympic Games and Euro football in sight

And add with a smile: "Afterwards, in fact, when we have a little time, we can carry out control and security missions in the border area."

As for major sporting events, and the prevention of violence that could occur, members of the UOFA will delve into it this summer, & quot;with the Olympic Games in France, and the Euro football in Germany » they agree « We are around forty men, and we achieve a balance between the two countries, both in terms of numbers and missions. But we are going to recruit more ahead of these two very important meetings".

Over which they will watch.
