The quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady continues to organize training sessions of the group, despite the counter-indications of the Association of NFL players (NFLPA) and the multiplication dazzling cases COVID-19 in Florida.
In fact, Brady has chosen not to follow the recommendations of the medical director of the NFLPA, Dr. Thom Mayer, who has asked players, last Saturday, not to train together to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Despite all this, the quarter-to-back 42-year-old has continued to train intensively with his new team-mates of the Buccaneers. The NFLPA deplores this type of practice that threatens the health and safety of the players.
The situation is all the more worrying that the contagion is accelerating rapidly in Florida, where nearly 9000 new cases were reported Friday.
“These exercises are not in the best interest of the players and their safety, said the president of the NFLPA, DeMaurice Smith, to USA Today. It does not help to protect our players who will soon be at their training camps. And it will not help us in our efforts to have a full season.”
“Everything that the players do during the off-season will have direct impacts on our capacity to negotiate their protection once the season started,” added Smith. Looking at the risk factors of the COVID-19 – high body mass index, apnea of the summit, asthma, players are subject to blood clots – there are many in our customer base.”
Brady, however, seems to care little criticism of it. He has also published Thursday on Instagram a photo of him in training, with a famous quote of Franklin D. Roosevelt : “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. The former u.s. president had uttered these words in 1933, during the Great depression.
