In Barcelonnette, Victor Campenaerts finally took the lead, winning the 18th stage, in a final sprint, ahead of Frenchman Matteo Vercher.

Matteo Vercher had launched the final sprint, but too early. After cutting his effort 800 meters from the finish, it was the Belgian Victor Campenaerts who arrived first in Barcelonnette, winning the 18th stage of the Tour de France.
