Birima Touré, the former Nantes and Auxerre midfielder could strengthen Michel Der Zakarian's team.
Montpellier is in advanced contact with Malian midfielder Birima Touré, who has been without a club since leaving Al-Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). This former Malian international (10 caps) is undergoing his medical examination this Tuesday prior to signing a contract.
This athletic midfielder (1.83m), trained at Beauvais, began his career at Nantes, under the authority of Michel Der Zakarian, before playing at Brest and especially at Auxerre for six seasons (2017-2023). Touré could be Montpellier's second summer signing, having secured the loan of Strasbourg midfielder Barry Nzingoula.
In Rennes on Sunday
Since the end of last season, Montpellier, and in particular its coach, has targeted the midfield sector to stabilise a very permeable defence at the start of the season. With one point after three matches, including two at home against Strasbourg and Nantes, Montpellier occupies 16th place in Ligue 1 and travels to Rennes on Sunday for the 4th matchday of Ligue 1.
