Truck carrying 190 pigs overturns on A28 motorway: 90 pigs killed and around 20 euthanized

A heavy goods vehicle transporting pigs overturned on Sunday 6 October on the A28 motorway in the direction of Rouen-Alençon. 90 animals were killed, including around twenty that had to be euthanized on site.
This Sunday 6 October in the early evening, a truck transporting pigs bound for Alençon overturned on the A28 motorway. The semi-trailer, which contained 190 pigs, caused the death of 90 of them in the accident. Around twenty animals had to be euthanized on site, reports France Bleu.
The incident occurred around 8pm, near the town of Saint-Mards-de-Fresnes. Around 9:30pm, the Eure prefecture announced that traffic was reduced to a single lane and advised motorists to be careful due to the possible presence of stray animals.
Traffic interrupted
Less than an hour later, the prefecture indicated on X that traffic on this section was completely interrupted, and a diversion was put in place.

The highway was finally reopened this Monday morning at 9am. A total of 18 firefighters were mobilized on site, with the support of reinforcements from Sdis 76.
