The Canal + group has retained the TV rights to the Top 14 and Pro D2 over the period 2027-2032 for a total amount of around 700 million euros, announced the National Football League. rugby (LNR) Wednesday.

"The Canal + group retains the exclusivity of audiovisual rights in France for the Top 14 and Pro D2 until’ 2031-32", indicates the League in a press release. "The total amount of rights amounts to 696.8 million euros over five seasons, i.e. an average amount per season of 139.4&nbsp ;million euros, an increase of 14.7% compared to the current amount of rights", she specifies.

Progression of 13.3% for the Top 14

In detail, the annual audiovisual rights of the Top 14, the first division of the French championship, increased by 13.3% to 128.7 million per year. The progression is more marked for Pro D2 (+36%) to exceed ten million per season (10.7).

"Proud to be able to offer the most beautiful rugby championship in the world to our subscribers for at least 8 years until 2032"< /em>, tweeted the boss of the Canal + group, Maxime Saada, on his X account.

"Having secured major sports rights through the end of the decade, we now begin the next", he adds.

Historic broadcaster of national club rugby competitions since 1998, the Canal + group currently pays 121.6 million euros per season until 2026- 27.

Contract fulfilled for the LNR, which welcomes this agreement

"The offers were received and examined by the steering committee this Wednesday, May 22. All reserve prices […] have been exceeded", welcomes the LNR.

Launched at the beginning of April, the League's call for tenders covered four seasons with an option for a fifth season, i.e. until June 2032. The overall reserve price was set at 130 million.

According to the specialized bi-weekly Midi Olympique, the League was aiming for 140 million per season. "The new increase in audiovisual rights resulting from this appeal offers will allow professional rugby to confidently plan for the future and continue its development dynamic", welcomed the general director of the LNR, Emmanuel Eschalier.

"The renewed commitment of Canal + is a major asset for professional rugby and all of French rugby&quot ;, he adds in the League press release, noting that "stability is an important point for rugby fans".
