OTTAWA | A 20 year old man drowned in the Ottawa river near Britannia beach at the end of the week, becoming the second victim of this river in 24 hours.
According to the Ottawa Citizen, the young man was part of a group of people who swam in this place in the evening on Saturday. The swimmer would suddenly disappeared under the water.
The authorities were alerted, shortly after 20h and research that have been carried out on the water and on the shore. The body of the young man has been localized to 1: 40 in the morning this Sunday.
An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the drowning.
The Ottawa Citizen recalled that it is the second drowning in the Ottawa river in 24 hours.
On Friday, it is a 14-year-old who jumped from the railway bridge on Prince of Wales, who is never lifted to the surface. His body had not been found Sunday morning.
These two recent drownings occurred at places banned to the public. The bridge Prince of Wales, which connects Ottawa and Gatineau, is denied access to pedestrians, while the Britannia beach is closed until next year due to work.
