Against the odds of the Cévennes, the Gard men's bowls team won the title of French champions at the end of September with a score of 8 to 6. A first in 50 years!

It happened on the last weekend of September 2024 in Grenoble. The Union Bouliste Alésienne team, led by its president Sébastien Bono, won the French Quadrettes championship. After two hours of play in unpredictable weather, reminiscent of the Cévennes episodes, the UBA emerged as the big winner with a score of 8 to 6. Already rewarded with first place in the departmental competition held in Grau du Roi at the end of May, the Alésiens Aimé Lacoste, Jean-Marc Spinix, Jean-Claude Bord, Thierry Martinez accompanied by the Nîmes Gérard Chabeau repeated a feat that had not been seen for half a century.

After 50 years, a feat repeated

The last victory of a Gardoise men's team in a French championship dates back to more than 50 years ago, in 1966 after the victory of the Boule Dorée team of Trescol (La Grand Combe). The city of Alès, in itself, had never won a competition of this caliber to date. It is now a done deal, especially since it is a great first. Note that the UBA came very close to winning a second title of French champion after Boris Tarabusi lost in the final at the end of a match lost 13 to 12.
