Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Irwin Rivera was arrested on Thursday for an attempted murder of his two sisters.
According to the incident report ESPN got hold of, the 31-year-old American was arrested without possibility of release by the Boynton Beach, Florida Police Department.
Two women, one aged 22 and the other 33, were stabbed multiple times. The state of health of one of the victims is also critical, while the other is more stable.
Apprehended around 7 am Thursday, Rivera said he had “killed his sisters”. The fighter would have entered the room of the two women with the firm intention of committing a double murder, which was allegedly suggested to him by a “superior force”, it is mentioned in the report.
In a statement, the UFC said it was made aware after the incident that Rivera was suffering from mental problems. It is not yet clear what disciplinary action will be taken by the organization, but Rivera will not be offered a fight anytime soon, it has been confirmed. The bantamweight fighter lost by split decision his most recent fight to Andre Ewell on September 19.
