UN calls for respect on the internet in 2023


The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on Friday called for countering hate and misinformation on the internet in 2023, prioritizing respect and empathy. 

“My hope for the next year is that we lead our lives, individually and collectively, with kindness, empathy and unity, in our relationships with each other,” Volker stressed. Türk in a statement.

He called for sharing any disagreements on the internet with respect for others and making it a more dignified sphere of communication next year. 

< p>“I hope that we will have the freedom to express ourselves, with the assurance of being protected against hatred and misinformation,” he said.

In 2023, “we must ensure that the rights of women, for example, are respected at home and in public, that women and girls enjoy full equality and are not victims of discrimination,” he insisted.
