“Unacceptable”: High school student in custody after hitting her teacher who asked her to remove her veil

This Monday morning in Tourcoing, a student was taken into custody, suspected of having slapped her teacher. The latter allegedly asked the young woman to remove her veil.
At the end of classes on Monday morning, a student, an adult, decided to put her veil back on when leaving the Sévigné high school in Tourcoing, in the North. According to information from theParisien, the teacher in medical-social technical sciences then asked him to remove it. The student refused before leaving the establishment.
The teacher follows her before being jostled and slapped by the high school student. Still according to information from Parisien, the teacher allegedly responded before the student hit her several times. The young woman was then arrested at her home and taken into custody.
“It's unacceptable”
Anne Genetet, the newly appointed Minister of National Education, immediately responded on X to support the teacher. She describes the act as “unacceptable” . A complaint has been filed against the student, who is banned from entering the school until a disciplinary board meeting.

Gérald Darmanin, MP for Nord, also reacted on X to show his support for the teacher “who, while she was simply enforcing secularism – our common good — was hit by a student”.
