Underwater mirror: amazing video from the ocean floor
The apparatus brought to the surface a valuable resource and an important biological sample.
Studying hydrothermal vents”smokers” at the bottom of the Gulf of California, oceanographers witnessed the amazing geological, chemical and biological processes.
Driving underwater robot, scientists from the Institute of Schmidt and the University of Georgia filmed vents-columns, covered with colorful corals and surrounded by a variety of deep-sea animals. Unique miraculous pillars up to a height of 23 meters located at a depth of 2000 meters. Accumulating under rocky ledges, water from thermal springs with a temperature of +366ºС created the illusion of a perfect mirror – see for yourself!
According to the expedition leader, Mandy Joye (Mandy Joye), the towers are biologically “hot spots” where there may be unknown species, adapted to extreme environment. Calling the terrain and its ecosystem “unique natural laboratory”, the oceanographer said that this great depth was found a lot of debris: fishing nets, deflated balloons and artificial Christmas tree.
“Even those places in the ocean that are securely hidden from human eyes, are not protected from human impact,” Mandy Joye.
Look at how much garbage accumulated in the Mariana trench.
