A United Airlines flight from Sarasota, Florida, made an emergency landing at the nearest airport after a door open light illuminated Wednesday, January 10.
Nearly a week after the accident on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, during which a panel of the fuselage, including the window of the panel, came off shortly after takeoff, a new incident took place on a flight in the United States.
A United Airlines flight from Sarasota, Fla., made an emergency landing at the nearest airport after a door open light came on Wednesday, Jan. 10, reports the New York Post.
Landing at Tampa Airport
United Flight 2434 was heading to Chicago when the light came on, leading the pilots to alert dispatchers and reroute the plane to Tampa, according to a airport spokesperson.
The plane departed Sarasota International Airport at 3:42 p.m. and arrived at Tampa International Airport, where it landed safely at 4:35 p.m. , according to the flight tracking website Flight Aware.
The plane, which was carrying 123 passengers and five crew members, made an emergency landing "as a precaution to resolve a possible mechanical problem, said a United Airlines spokesperson.
The airline did not immediately say whether the problem in question was related to an open door light, but a Tampa International Airport spokesperson said that his colleagues had received a call specifically referring to this issue when runway space was requested for the emergency landing.
