United states: increase of cases against the backdrop of debates on the mask

États-Unis: augmentation de cas sous fond de débats sur le masque

The number of cases of COVID-19 continues to climb in the United States, but some people find that the places that have made the mask required to contain better to the pandemic.

“When I look at what is happening in Texas, in Florida, Georgia and in other States, I think that [the governors of these States] are not doing enough to control the virus,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the prestigious Global Health Institute, Harvard University, on the airwaves of the NBC network.

Several mayors of large cities to the south of the country have endorsed these arguments in the last few days, and have imposed the wearing of the mask, in spite of this encouraged by the governing republicans of their respective States.

It is of course the case in Georgia, where the governor is republican Brian Kemp was attacked Thursday in justice to the mayor of Atlanta, Keisha Lance Bottoms, to have imposed the wearing of the mask in his city.

Ms. Lance Bottoms, which is expected by some analysts to be the colistière of democrat Joe Biden in the November presidential election, has criticized Friday the governor Kemp to be motivated by its political ideology.

Georgia remains one of the States most affected by the pandemic, but Saturday, it’s Kentucky and Texas that have especially caught the attention of pejorative.

The Kentucky has experienced its second daily increase of cases, the more marked since the beginning of the crisis. Some 583 new cases are added to the balance sheet, which totals 22 184 people diagnosed with the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

“It means that it is a dangerous time, and this can not be explained by our increased testing,” said governor democrat Andy Beshear, in a statement cited by ABC News.

The president, Donald Trump had already claimed previously that the increase in the number of cases in the United States was due to the increase in the number of tests.

Governor Beshear said Saturday that these poor figures reflect the time when the mask was not yet mandatory in his State.

In Texas, 10 658 people were hospitalized Saturday, a record high since the beginning of the crisis.

As for the number of new cases, it has exceeded 10 000. This was only the fifth time that the Texas crossed this threshold, according to the information of ABC News.

Arizona has also demarcated a sad way Saturday, while 147 people were killed, a record for this State.

In absolute numbers, the United States is the country most affected by the COVID-19 with 3.6 million positive diagnosis and 139 of 266 dead.
