Unveiling of the semi-finalists of the OSM Competition

Godwin Friesen, Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, Hamilton Lau, Jean-Christophe Melançon, Linda Ruan, Vincent Vu, Joshua Wong, Victoria Wong, Nicole Wu and Jessica Yuma are the semi-finalists of the 83rd edition of the OSM competition, to be held from November 8 to 12.
Note that for the first time, the Orchester symphonique de Montréal (OSM) will accompany the finalists during the grand finale.
This year marks the return to the normal format after two editions in virtual mode due to the pandemic. Many prizes are at stake.
Several concerts and a tour in Europe
In the meantime, the OSM, under the direction of conductor Dina Gilbert, will offer for the first time in Montreal three performances of the show “Harmonium symphonique – The original creation” on October 6, 7 and 8 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place des Arts. With singers Luce Dufault and Kim Richardson, guitarist Sylvain Quesnel, orchestrator Simon Leclerc and the participation of the Chœur des jeunes de Laval.
The OSM will also hold two concerts at the Maison symphonique de Montréal: on October 12, at 7:30 p.m., conductor Rafael Payare an evening dedicated to Shostakovich, Ravel and Liszt. On October 13, at 7:30 p.m., Mr. Payare will this time lead the musicians to pieces by Shostakovich and Mozart. In both cases, Víkingur Ólafsson will be at the piano.
The OSM will also be on a European tour from October 21 to 28. Six concerts are on the program in Brussels, Budapest, London, Vienna and Zagreb. The musicians will be conducted by Rafael Payare, with the presence of pianists Bruce Liu and Víkingur Ólafsson as well as violinist Augustin Hadelich. The Montreal orchestra has been touring internationally since 1962, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
