Health Canada approved Pfizer's vaccine last Friday to inoculate children.

“After a full independent scientific review, the ministry determined that the benefits of this vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 outweigh the risks,” the federal agency said in a press release.

The first doses of Pfizer's Cominarty vaccine arrived in Canada on Sunday evening.

The 2.9 million initial doses expected for children should arrive by Friday, the Minister of Public Services and of Supply, Filomena Tassi.

Pending approval of the vaccine by Health Canada, the Quebec government has repeatedly stated that its objective was to administer a first dose to all children with Christmas.
