Valley: the new Multimodal Exchange Center has come into operation in Gignac

The technique is well established. The cyclist goes around the red bus on foot and puts his bike in the hold. He then takes his usual line to Montpellier where he will still have 10 kilometers to go, using the strength of his calves, to arrive at his office without getting annoyed in traffic. This Monday this scene daily was repeated in the capital of the Valley, except that, for the first time, boarding took place from the brand new docks of the new PEM. A Multimodal Exchange Hub which has now taken up residence near the Camalcé roundabout, in Gignac.

A culture of mobility

And for the occasion, this Monday morning, it was even possible to have a coffee before taking… his bus…"Today is the launch of the Multimodal Exchange Hub but the inauguration will take place at the start of the school year, in September. The PEM is part of the mobility culture that the CCVH wishes to promote. This structuring space will be a rallying point for all the mobility services that will develop in our territory", describes David Cablat, vice-president of Comcom responsible for Mobility. Exit the bus station and hello to the PEM which has the ambition to offer a range of transport solutions for the inhabitants of the Valley. "These services will be launched one after the other. There are lockers for bicycles. The idea is that users find several mobility solutions to their needs, summarizes Caroline Maury, deputy general director at the CCVH.

A second installation phase

In addition to the six well-identified platforms, the proposed PEM 40 parking spaces (ultimately 84 for line users and carpoolers), 20 individual lockers for bicycles, an ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicle, a car-sharing service, a TADAM (from the end of July – see box), and, "there will even, soon be the possibility of renting vehicles"and eventually a probable Car line with a high level of service, CHNS. Without forgetting, that by 2026 the house of mobility and tourism will be located on this site where information on tourism and travel will be distilled. " We know that there are very high expectations from the population. The PEM is more accessible and it is more environmentally friendly because we encourage people to take public transport. And this improves the quality of life of users, says David Cablat.

Le TADAM, késaco ?

"This is the name of Transport à the request that we are going to put in place for the 26 municipalities (with the exception of Gignac and Saint-André, Pôle de centralityé)"< /em>, calculates David Cablat. The principle is simple, one and a half days per week, initially, and one Saturday per month, the inhabitants of these municipalities will be able to schedule transport by reserving, the day before, their AR to the p  centrality points via a telephone number. The service is funded &agrav; 70% by the Region, and 30 % by the CCVH for a participation of 2 € per person per trip. (4 € round trip). "The service opens at the beginning of July, we will allow ourselves a year of experimentation to draw up an initial assessment but we hope ;I really believe that this will work and develop in the future." The summer period should allow users to get their bearings on the Tadam and develop good habits for the start of the school year. "It’is not a taxi but this service allows us to offer a mobility solutioné for everyone in the area because certain villages, such as Lagamas, Saint-Guiraud and Puéchabon, are not served by public transport. It’s a question of fairness. and social justice. Our idea, really, is to not leave anyone on the side of the road ", says Caroline Maury.

Ultimately, the Coaches with a high level of service (which would have a reserved access route to Montpellier) could set off from the infrastructure which is sized to accommodate a noria bus services as part of the Serm, regional and metropolitan express service. "And this equipment has also been designed to accommodate larger buses. We have the capacity to have bus rotations with 13 meter vehicles. The CHNS service offer can be accommodated on this PEM, it is planned for, there is no risk of saturation for coaches", reassures Elsa Achard , responsible for sustainable urban strategy and mobility at the CCVH.
