(Charlotte) Fred VanVleet scored 23 points, including three on the final pitch of the half, and the Toronto Raptors defeated the Charlotte Hornets 112-109 on Monday night.
Rookie Malachi Flynn amassed 17 points in another strong performance in preseason. Terence Davis added 14 points while Pascal Siakam collected 12 for the Toronto team.
Terry Rozier and Jalen McDaniels led the Hornets by 15 points each.
The 26-year-old VanVleet had five three-pointers and nine of his 12 shots from the field. He also had four assists and three steals in just 22 minutes of play.
The Raptors were trailing 14 points in the first half, but they recovered. Flynn had seven points early in the fourth quarter and the Torontonians led by seven points halfway into the final period.
Raptors star point guard Kyle Lowry has not traveled to Charlotte with the team. He was granted permission to stay at the team’s temporary home in Tampa, Fla.
