The Canadian took advantage of the problems in the service of an opponent much better ranked than him – 52nd against 149th – in the tiebreaker to take the lead. Indeed, Griekspoor lost his last four games with balls in hand to hand Pospisil the second set.

The winner then smashed his opponent to make it 6-5 and then only needed only four small games to end the world.

This is a third victory in this tournament for Pospisil, who has gone through the qualifying process. He previously defeated Marius Copil and Illya Marchenko. He now has an appointment with local favorite Edan Leshem (446th). If he wins, he could find first seed Novak Djokovic on his way in the third round.
