This Wednesday, June 12, the association La ville à vélo Lyon Métropole re-shared the video of an attack that took place on May 6. We see a motorist threatening a cyclist at a red light before dragging him to the ground in front of several witnesses.

The video, reshared by the Ville à vélo association Lyon Métropole on X, was filmed on May 6. We see a cyclist filming himself cycling in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon, being attacked by a motorist.

The motorist refuses to back up

It all started with a simple request from the cyclist. Arriving at a red light, he asks the car behind him to back up, the latter encroaching on the "SAS bike" and therefore preventing him from seeing the signage. Very quickly, the motorist becomes virulent, declaring that he doesn't want to go back. He orders the cyclist to get back in front "because if I go down, I'm going to fart you…", can we hear in the video, notably taken up by Actu Lyon.

"Are you going to run over me or something ?"

The situation escalates quickly. The man behind the wheel drove several times towards the cyclist before getting out of his vehicle to move him out of the way, dragging him to the ground. While the victim repeatedly exclaims "You attacked me! Are you going to run over me or something ?", several witnesses begin to gather around the scene.

Police intervention

When the cyclist asks them to call the authorities, the motorist takes out a police card, which, however, has not been authenticated. The Rhône national police responded to the scene at 5:44 p.m. The people involved allow themselves, according to the police contacted by our colleagues, "the right to file a complaint".
