Three weeks before the Olympic Games, recent European champion Gabriel Tual broke the French 800 meters record on Sunday in 1'41''61 during the Paris meeting.

Created European double lap champion in mid-June, Tual shattered his record by almost 2.5 seconds to take third place in one of the fastest 800 meters fastest in history, beaten by the Algerian Djamel Sedjati (1'41''56) and by the young Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi (1'41& #39;'58).

In addition to becoming a serious contender for the Olympic podium next month, Tual also shatters Pierre-Ambroise Bosse's French record (1'42''53 ) which has held since 2014.

The first three in Sunday's race become the third, fourth and fifth best performers in history over the distance. Only the Kenyan world record holder David Rudisha (1'40''91 in 2012) and the Dane Wilson Kipketer (1'41'&#39 ;11 in 1997) have already gone faster.
