“Exceptional” rains fell this Thursday, October 17, 2024 on the Center-East and the South-East of France, reaching up to 630 millimeters in certain areas of Ardèche. At the height of the episode, 6 departments were on red alert including Ardèche and 34 on orange alert.
The flooding of the Rhône and the Ardèche in Pont-Saint-Esprit

Yesterday, Thursday, between noon and 6 pm& nbsp;hours, the level of the Rhone rose by two more meters, going from 6.80 meters to 8.60 meters at the height of Pont-Saint-Esprit.
The city of Beaucaire suffered overflows
The Rhone has burst its banks in Beaucaire, swollen by the flooding of the Ardèche. The water has invaded the car parks of the fairground, the arenas and the municipal casino. Despite the warning issued by the mayor, Nelson Chaudon, four to five cars have not been moved. The bench doors are closed.

The red flood warning was lifted Friday morning in the last four departments concerned (Rhône, Loire, Haute-Loire and Lozère), but 18 departments in the southern half remain affected by an orange warning "floods" or "rain-flood", Météo-France reported.
